I am getting my a14 rebuilt and i am wondering if I should buy a new pair of 38mm SU carbies for around $700 or should i explore other options?

I already have a manifold from some hitachu cabies to suit the SU's.

the engine will be:
bored 60 thou
balanced
70 30 cam 280 276 duration
head ported
double valve springs
extractors

just after some inside information

Find a pair of Hitachis from a 1600, 240z, 180B sss etc, they are dirt cheap, less than $100 a pair, they will do the same job as your $700 pair.

mine run rich (not as rich now), if they are worn, find a better pair to rebuild or get in better nick with needles etc and jets while they are off the car. for under $100 for 2nd hand 180b etc nes, cant really go to wrong.

As they only really have one moving part they are not that hard to rebuild and I would be surprised if the Z car boys were not able to supply all the parts needed, if you have trouble try Stewart Wilkins,
Stewart Wilkins he will probably stock them.

The Hitachis 38s only have one part that really wears out. Just like 1-1/2 inch S.U. carbs.

For more information, see: wiki - Hitachi Twin Carbs
