Why, does the ECU malfunction if an intercooler is not used? Or did Nissan state that turbo system MUST have an intercooler? Obviously an intercooler is useful, most cars have them, trucks have them, etc. But the first Porsche Turbo did not, neither do many aftermarket setups.

Those old porsche had really low compression to compensate for this and where an absolute pig to drive, drive a 930 and you'll see.
With inlet temperatures going through the roof, bearing in mind the SR is alloy block and head, would lead to the factory knock sensor to retard the timing, this equals NO FUN. Or if he is running an aftermarket computer this would restrict the amount of boost he could run in fear of detonation this also equals NO FUN. In summary nissan spent millions developing the system and where confident enough to put a warranty on it, i reckon they no there stuff.

I agree Nissan made the right choice in fitting an intercooler. I didn't realize it would be that bad without one. Thanks for the additional info.

Yeah it sucks without one i drove my SR without one for about a week before i got my custom one made up. Even on the hottest days inlet air temperatures don't crack 25 degress C.

The liberty setup is similar to the old GT4 setup, very good for street sleepers and very effective.

Just to let you know I have posted more pictures hope its enough pictures to learn through, now if there is anything else you need to know, just let me know I will do my best.

Thats right Harry, Liberty water/air intercooler
it sits between the passenger strut tower and radiator support panel level with the guard fits perfectly and the water nozzles face the front of the car to a pump and small radiator, its the radiator size I have to get right and place to fit it just the money restrictions at the moment.
I'll get the cooler from my parents place and fit it in and post the pitures.. and again more pictures are posted of mounts and clutch setup
