you say 1 should be blocked off wuldnt having 1 instead of 2 be better due to the fact that, that is the direction fromwhere the fuel comes from. [edit] my mistake should read the whole thread first

Okay I'm left with these ideas:

- swap fuel line from 1 to 2
- float is out
- jets/emulsion tubes are way off

It ran very well for 20 mins while we warmed it up, not just idle but once I got the idle mixture set (responded to setting very well) it picked up revs nicely. Even our first lap around the block was really good, picked up revs nicely. Second lap it started chugging in 3rd and stalled when I pulled over.

Now it doesn't run >20 seconds at all - not matter what...

Also the auto choke never actually chokes, even with the coolant running into it, haven't worked that one out yet...

blocked fuel filter?

Take the inlet line of the carb and put it into a bowl. crank the engine to make sure there is fuel flow to the carb.

Can you keep it running by raising the revs?

Something crappy i noticed about these carbs is there is no float window!

Nope, throttle has absolutely no effect on the revs when it's stalling, which is why I'm lead to believe it's running gout of fuel, it behaves just like a car which has run out of fuel.

But I agree, no float window makes it hard. Apparently if there's not float window it means it's not something you adjust.

Tell me guys, I find two screws on either side of the carb, I'm guessing this is mixture adjustment for each barrel?

Wiki FTW!!!! The large screw will be idle ajustment the smaller 1 at the base going in on an angle is mixture.. Sounds like its running out of fuel, take the top off the carb and letting the float hang down blow through No1 then No2 see which 1 lets the airflow freely thats the 1 you use! Now if you can,t blow air through them you,ve got a blockage and ya need to sort that out!! Also you can buy a cheap fuel pressure guage from supa junk or autowank that,ll check ya fuel pump..Not that I think that,s your prob.. Good luck You,ll get the beast haulin yet..

Thanks for that - I'll give it a try.

I should add that I have printed out the wiki and read over and pretty much memorized it as well as anything else I could find.

The idle mixture setting that the wiki/redlineweber website describes is not on this carby. The idle speed is there but where the idle mixture screw would be is filled in (like it was never drilled out in the first place) so I'm guessing that on this model they relocated it elsewhere.

You can see a bronze screw just northeast of #3 in the picture, I assume that's the mixture for the 32 barrel and there's an identical one on the other side, so I assume that's for the 36 barrel?

Looking at some of your pics I notice that you have some unblocked fittings in the inlet manifold [air leaks]..
Brass screws on the side of the body of the carb are the idle jets. This jet is the most influental jet for street driving as majority of driving is on part throttle. The idle jet meters the idle and progression ccts.

use number 2 for fuel supply, block 1 (return) vent 3 into the air box/filter unit.
and 4 goes to dizzy as vacuum advance.

as for your problem, check your needle and seat aren't blocking and float heights.

also check thet you haven't got any blockages. pump the throttle and see if you have fuel spraying into the barrels.

Okay - after today I got it up and running.

What I did was remove the hard fuel line and ran some fuel hose from the fuel pump to #2 on the carby. I then ran #1 to a bottle to measure how much was coming out.

Instantly ran fine and a bit was coming out of the return. I blocked off #1 and tried again and it doesn't stall now. Runs a teeny bit rich but it's okay otherwise.

The intake hose you are talking about was plugged, I just took this photo after the carby was mounted so there are thing missing (like the fuel line etc.)

It's off to the dyno next week to get tuned and rejetted as needed.

Thanks for all the help guys, you've been fantastic as usual.
