This weekend I was 'supposed' to pick up a steering rack to put in but the guy piked and I only got the old rack out and managed to attempt a trial fit, pics below.

Looks like to even have a chance the metal shroud for the fan will need to get cut out and with a little jigging around we should be able to get the engine in there, now its just a matter of if the engine plate will have somewhere to mount to.

Yeah I'd really like to away without having to cut the firewall so moving it forward is going to be key, and Im still yet to trial fit the auto.

Why is you are so keen on a C10 auto dude?

To save a bit of space and weight adapt the clevo to a 2 speed powerglide.

Looks like the project is comming along quite well, keep at it mate.

Well to tell ya the truth I hadn't really looked outside the C series boxes, looks like I might be able to pick up a good c10 for $200. A box is a box, so long and it'll take the power and doesn't burn a hole in my wallet. But if this box falls through then I'll look around a little further maybe.

In other news, I dropped the steering rack off today at a holden wreckers to get measured up and see if they have a close match.

I understand That this car is being built for fun and not for the road, but, if you mount the engine further forward in order to not cut the firewall, you will take weight away from the rear wheels and in a 1/4 mile car thats not a good thing.
On the other hand great for a burnout car, but I doubt you will have any trouble getting those wheels to spin
Looks like it will be a good challenge, best of luck.

Bad310 thats a really good point... hmmm I suppose I'll just have to see how it goes when I test fit the auto... speaking of autos I managed to get 2 c10's for $200 pick up in a couple o weeks. One of them is a rebuilt stock box and one is a toughened box (incomplete).

Haven't got a stally yet and will probably be the last thing. Still no reply from the wreckers on the rack.

So that leaves this weekend cutting the radiator support, which begs the question, how the hell do u cleanly cut the support panel? 'cleanly' being the important word there. For the moment I only want to remove the metal shroud but if thats not enough I'll do a mid cut and remove the center of the panel to set the engine straight through the front.

My first idea was to get a couple o hacksaw blades and get into it, but then I smacked my head and thought that was a slow ass way to do it. Next was the angle grinder with a cutting disc but I thought that it may result in a VERY unclean cut... soo how do ppl do it?!
