Just in the process of this myself...I belive as usual I have gone overboard but decided this.

Fuel tank --- low pressure fuel filter --- lift pump --- surge tank ---- particulate filter --- EFI pump ----- EFI filter ---- Fuel rail.

With an old petrol tank and a steel surge tank I want to make sure I catch the crap before it reaches the EFI pump.

Nice work!
is that a Bunnings fuel box? Hehe. Mind if I steal your idea? Looks really nice. Did you get a decent pipe bender?

Im also setting this up at the moment..
Fuel tank - lifter pump - surge tank - filter -efi pump then upgraded fuel line all the way to the front. i could also run another filter (before/after) the lifter pump. Easy mod,
Mildman, thats a crazy set-up !! are you going to leave any room for the subs with that thing? cant wait to see the finished product guys.

Many EFI pumps are very tight tolerance, they will lock up if they get crap through them. Some pumps have a small filter on the intake side that helps, but you really need a small filter on low pressure side of EFI pump, and an EFI filter on the high pressure side. What if there is crap in the surge tank?

Generally Mildman's solution will be fine.

I have 'unstuck' a few (mine and other's) EFI pumps on the roadside by reversing the polarity. which puts the pump in reverse. But it should never happen if you ave appropriate filters in place.

That fuel box looks like overkill. Is that to please your local authorities?

Cheers,
Chris

Jim - yep $14.95 from bunnings - 550mm wide box....also bought a pipe bender the same as yours of ebay...should be here in a couple of days!

Chris - no such thing as overkill in my books it seems. I only put it in the box as I want to have the pumps in the cabin, and with no rear firewall - I just wanted to be sure CAMS are happy with it.

Plus it gives me somewhere to mount the Carter fuel pump.

Also I put the particulate filter in between surge tank and EFI pump just incase some crap gets into the surge tank...or it rusts in years to come.

No I'm just working out the overflow to the tank. There is a overflow hose in the filler neck - I was thinking of just using that to send fuel back down to the tank.

Got a shot of yours Jim?

Haven't got a shot yet, I'll try and get one tomorrow and put it up for you. Was my first attempt at brazing something though so not looking too pretty. I would take one now but in the middle of a Mario Kart tournament with mates

Here you go,
welded sorry not brazed, was tired when I typed that. The welding is crappy but it was with a Bunnings welder that has two settings, burn holes or make spatter, hehe, that's my excuse anyway.

It isn't flared yet thus the long bit of pipe at the top. The petrol nozzle *should* still fit in I hope.

Hope that helps.
Oh yeah, that's my new Bunnings fuel box below too.
