my car took 3rd gear off the shaft of a celica (sprinter) box with a tad over 100rwkw. 130rwkw seems about their limit.

My N/A A series eats Celica boxes for breakfast

Its a torque thing not a HP thing

Depends how they are driven too

Has anyone out there tried to change the A-series gear rings? Here people are ordering (group buy) stronger gear rings for FWD (E10) A-series.
Its costs about 300-500

I dont have any experance with A series turbos BUT i have turbo'd alot of the toyota K series motors which are very similar.

the weakest point i have found is normally rings, you can make the rest of it handle medium boost ~15psi with correct tuning, (which is pretty hard with carbs)

To build a big boost motor i'd run forged pistons with standard rods and crack, port the head (not that much because wall thickness and ability to dissapate heat is less) double valve springs, bigger valves (moreso the exchast valve and espally if you can get a better quality one)
Then you need to get a copper head gasket and arp head bolts, (id prob go arp through all the motor) Front mount cooler, then run a decent twin scrool exchast manifold with a pretty big turbo, EFI is a must and a pretty big cam ground for a turbo style overlap.

i know of a 5k(~1480cc) turbo corolla that makes 155KW which is just under 210hp and thats at 23PSI of boost. (you can see dyno runs of it on youtube)

so all in all it ant gonna be cheap and you ant gonna make that much power... and from my experance you need a really strong box and diff to coupe with the torque of a big turbo motor.

i think afew people got there hopes up after seeing that 240hp a12 BUT that was in 3rd gear so in reality it would make anywhere near 240hp.
