after speaking with scott at Maddat, i'm not going to use the 120y setup, just not going to be enough for my intentions, so i'm chasing a set of sunny front struts, and have a full set of S13 SR20 brakes/hubs for sale.
If anyone has a brake setup that they are interested in selling, please pm me. I'm in Brisbane but quite prepared to travel (within reason) to get a set.
I also have an eclipse 2000w monoblock that i could use to persuade a deal if the need be...
I really want a four pot!
thanks again for all your help guys, this is one of the best forums i've been involved in so far.
Brodie

wait wait wait, you were convinced not to use 120y setup(right choice by me) but now you want sunny struts? they have got to be one of the worst designs out there
i think what you should be looking for (in no particualr order) would be: 180b struts 200b/240k small offset struts 200b/240k large offset struts r31 struts (or bluebird if you want more camber and less wheel clearance)

Yeah I was thinking the same thing but Ive given up trying to advise people, no-one actually listens to anything anyway, I dont know how many times things have been repeated on this site.
Sunny and Stanza struts are the same length and longer than a 1200 strut by about 20mm, why would you want to loose suspension travel.
WTF!!!
As for cutting them down, 200b struts have basically the same brake as a stanza if not better (think disc size is increased and different calipers) and they are short enough for a lowered 1200, not race car lowered but low enough. All you have to do is get a lower spring seat welded on from your 1200.

200b struts have plenty of travel for a race car, havnt managed to bottom the struts out on the street and my cars not really a 4x4 and geelong isnt the smoothest place on earth
but yes, join the revolution...the revolution away from stanza and sunny struts

if your going to cut the struts down to suit smaller inserts then you will be fine with stanza struts, but if not then small offset 200b/240k struts are the way to go
gives you a few more options if you cant find a wreckers with a stanza

I'm doing series one bluebird struts (Which are very similar to 200b or 180b struts as i understand it), with a modified spring perch welded on at the appropriate height to fit lowered 1200 king springs, with r31 discs and calipers which are a bolt on conversion and a 120y boosted master cylinder. Nice big strong struts, with an easy big disc brake conversion, with lots of spares availability if needed down the track, especially the brakes. Also the advantage of lots of travel and more camber. Mine is only a street ute but i have read of the same conversion being done on race cars with good results. Not sure if there may be bigger brake conversions you can do on the bluey struts, maybe pigdog can help out with the answer to that one, but the r31 upgrade is plenty big for my needs. Haven't fitted as of yet but hopefully will be shortly if i can get off my arse and do it. Trav

Here you go mate!!! 180b wrecking. See if you can score the struts and disc brakes off it and get them posted to you. 180b wreckingAll you will have to do is reweld a 1200 spring perch on at the appropriate height for whatever size springs you want and your away. Will go onto sunny/stanza lower control arm and balljoints. I'm not 100% sure what types of brakes can be easily adapted to these struts, but i'm sure even the 180b discs and calipers with a big booster would be a decent upgrade. I've heard that a lot of the rally guys love these struts due to the increased travel and strength. Pigdog, maybe you can enlighten us as to what brake upgrades would suit. Trav

bluebird are more like r30 and r31 struts brake wise suspention travel wise they are pretty close to 180b and 200b
any brake setup that will go onto r31 struts will go onto bluebird ones, unless they are really really close to the strut tube in which case there might be clearance problems, DATSPORT make a nice kit tp bole r33 skyline brakes onto them so your not really short on upgrades
ive got some 180b struts forsale also, used them for fitting of the commodore calipers and 276x24mm vented discs personally would bother changing struts oonly to use the stocko brakes... they arent that much bigger than coupe or 120y brakes but with the VL turbo(sick mate) VL v8, VN/VP V8 and VR VS calipers going straight on to suit magna discs (276x24mm) and being enough to pull up CA powered 1200s with ease....brakes are an easy upgrade
think that about answers most questions....for more info on brake swaps you could try and hunt down the post i made a while ago listing most of the 4 piston brake upgrades that i knew of but that would require a bit of searching
