#1 A12-SA Engine (from a sunny)
xtturbo Posted on: 2003/4/24 10:01
I was in the wreckers today, to get some parts for a mates magna, and I thought id go look through there dattos considering im going to get a 1200 soon. They had a few sunnys and 120ys, but not much else. However one thing struck my attention. One of the sunnys had a sticker with details of the engine listing it as a 'A12-SA' Ive seen 'A12S" mentioned once on this site as a 1270cc motor, and ive seen A12A mentioned as a 1237cc motor. Does anyone know what a A12-SA is?

The thing that really struck my attention about it was that this particular engine had a shiny (but a bit dirty) aluminium looking head on it. any ideas?

Mmmmmmmmmmmm. Not sure about the SA markings. I actually have a spare motor here out of a sunny. It is an A12 it came out of a B310 79'. Im not sure though it may have been swapped into that car at same stage.
I might have to go and have look and see what i can c c c.

Maybe the motor in the wreckers just had a reco cyl head fitted or something.

I will let you know what i find on this sunny motor.

Yeah id say the head was a reco or something....but what really interested me was that sticker which had the engine listed as an A12-SA. unless it just means that it is a A12A for a Sunny..... but im kinda hoping its an A12S :)

do engines from B310s bolt straight into 1200s?

Do engines from B310s bolt straight into 1200s? Not exactly. They are the same as the A14, so the usual motor mount tricks need to be employed.

hmmm ... Tonghong lists gasket sets for A12, A12S and A12T ... I wonder what those are? PanTaiwan lists the pistons (apparently using Nissan part numbers) showing difference with A12 and A12S and MA12(?). It seem the MA10 and MA12 were used in the March/Micra.

Maybe the A12S is the 74-up A12 (with the dizzy under #3 plug a la A14)?

its jsut a A12, but on the sticker on the hood is says A12S.

common Nissan engine number suffixs
S=carburated
E=efi or fuel injection
D=dual overhead cams
T=turbo
TT=dual turbo
V=variable valve timing

example SR20DETT:
SR20 engine with dual overhead cams, electronic fuel injection, and dual turbos

something i should have mentioned today is that the sunny/ 120y and all a-14 and a-15 require plates to mount to the stock engine mounts in a 1200

i have a diagram
here

i also have these plates at my house and i just realised that motor i gave you today is a 120y motor and therefore requires these to mount to a 1200, when you need them or have some time we can easily make some up using the ones i have as a template

sorry, forgot about that

yep, as shlong as it says a-12 on that first square she's all good

the scruts dont know every detail about every engine all they are gonna do is look at that number (if they even do that)
