I have a Reg Cook 1648, But have to re- assemble, but thought it would be better to go with something a bit more modern, but sounds as if putting this one in will be cheaper in the log run, even if i have to rebuild more often.

My engine was built by Lynn Rogers and I plan to take it back to him annually for a "freshen up", much rather do that, than a re-build from a blow up.

I have to change a few things like cam etc, as this 1648 is out of a SS2000 car, need to make it a little more "user friendly" so it will last a rally.

ok, who's engine have you got, I may know it?

A good close box & low diff you be right!

My engine was built for racing but its really user friend, often thought it would make a great rally engine, its got heaps of torque! 91ftlbs at the wheels which I've been told by Brian Roycroft is simular to good A15!

There lies the problem....i have a good diff, but a standard gearbox, im too tight to get reg cook to build one at around 2/2.5k

What Hp is your car pumping out?

Ill find the guys name who used to own the engine (i brought it off Vaughan MacInnes, but i dont think he ever had it in his car)

yeah reg is damm dear we had a bad run with reg cook tho i dont think it was his fault i think it was his mechanic we rally A gtir and they rebuilt the box for us into close ratio with all hardend gears we had a problem with 2nd gear grauhghing every time we changed at pase we found out that the problem was that the gear box is supposed to have a 3 peice cyncro in 2nd gear but there was only 2 peices of the cyncro in there

nothin personal obiviously

when you can I'd be going for a gear box, it's amazing how much a good box & diff makes - if i was building a car its the first thing I'd go for.

My engine has 142 hp at the wheels.

yes, well there aren't much in the way of options where is comes to gear boxes, Reg seams to be the one for "new" kits e.t.c.

best would be to deside what you want then see if you can find something second hand.

Another option that I haven't invesigated is apparently in AU you can buy bell housings which will allow at Toyota T50 gear box to be bolted up to the A series engine. the kits for the T50 can be got throught Palmside in CHC and are priced ok.
- perhaps some of our AU friends can comment on the bell housing thing.
