is it just the back firing when holding constant throttle???? or does it still idle bad?? just curiuos as mine backfires when constant throttle(backfire as in loud bang/puff in airfilters) and ive never found the cause..if they find out wat it in please do tell, i just pressumed it was due to the carbies not being perfely in tune and it varies from time to time(each teardown/reasseble) ive also seen a few vids on this site of other twinsidedraft aseries doing it.

yea they have had it on the dyno, they reckon its missing. so ill leave it with them 2 morrow and see what happens. it back fires and idles all over the place, but the corrects itself, and wat not. Can fuel cause it to miss?

ok heres the update. It turned out 2 be a very minor stupid problem, but expensive. i had taken the filters of and cleaned them, and re oiled them. and when i put them back on i had trouble with it running. what was happening, on cylinder 3 on the carbies, as the strut tower is so close, the sock filter was resting against that, and because of the new oil, it had pretty much made a chamber, and no air was getting down the 3rd barrel. so all up i have new points, plugs. and dyno tuned. and the ute is running again, its back firing alot but???. also nearly ended in disaster as they had taken the rocker cover off at some stage, and when putting it back on, they hadnt fit it properly, and hadnt tightened the bolts up tight, so half way home, the ute starts stinking, and smoking, open bonnet, oil everywhere. its all fixed now. so fingers crossed, theres no more drama

IMO filter socks are just no good. I would either go for a foam pillow type air filter. or a paper element type. Fingers crossed, that this was the problem.

hmm i thought 1200 engine bays were wider than 120y's as i had to shorten the boofhead strut bar to fit... how big are your trumpets?? theres plenty of room for my socks they only just touch the stut tower. Were they only just touching??i would of thought the engine would just suck the oil through??? im confused, mabey ill take mine off and see wat happens..
Edit: so do u still have the socks?? or somthing else??

i still have the socks, theres way less oil in them, The reason i couldnt figure it out, was because i took the first barrel sock of and nothing improved, so i didnt bother taking the rest of. yea its quite tight in the bay, i dunno why??, maybe diffrent manifolds. also is it common for the carbies 2 backfire a heap after tuning, its only when you back of the gas and slow down
