$1500 - $2400 freight X Auckland, plus local fees of about $450 to land it. Then add costs of purchase + freight + local costs. The times 15% for duty payable and add this to the total than add %10 for GST.
Before you attempt to bring in a car you must have an import permit from Dept of Transport before it arrives here. CHECK THE SITE AND READ THOROUGHLY! If you are bringing in a car uder the 15 year rule ensure you have the permit and all quarantine requirements are met before shipping. It gets very expensive. A good rule of thumb is to double the purchase price for landed costs.

I'm in the export/import industry here in NZ, so if you need any help, guidance or even great rates, I'm happy to help.
This goes for anyone on this site.

Hi Brent,
I'm planning on bringing my house hold stuff, coupe and parts back to NZ later next year. Bluff (1st choice) or Dunedin - any advice/expected cost greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ian.

Stupid import laws they should make it cheap and easier to import a car. Is there any place you can import a car for less then what you would pay for a car here???

Nope, probably not, import duties & taxes are designed to protect the local manufacturer/supplier, but like everything there are "pro's" & "con's"

I think it works out cheaper to bring it over from Japan than from NZ.
You could get it all arranged through someone like Geoff Risbey of Prestige Motorsports: http://www.prestigemotorsport.com.au A friend of mine recently imported a GTS-T R33 landed, complied and australian registered for 12k. Apparently one of the cheapest Geoff has ever done. You can view topic.
