im runnin a silvia box as well. what we did was panel beat the forward part of the tunnel to accomodate the bell housing a little bit of panel beating down the middle of the tunnel and got the shifter section of a tunnel from a silvia to allow the already mentioned huge shifter section, this also means (not that its a big deal) that you get the bolt holes for the gearstick boot to bolt to.

but..... if you want to be able to remove the gearbox without removing the motor the best bet is to get a silvia tunnel and cut out your old one, its not that bigger job to be honest, if i had of investigated it a bit more before doing mine, i would have gone this way

hope that helps u make a decision

jimmy.

I have the CA18 Manual box in a 1200 Coupe which was a manual to begin with. Its a tight fit and required minor panel beating (smacking with hammer) to the tunnel. It fits quite neatly, however the motor and gearbox cant be separated while in the car. The car is lowered over the motor/gearbox and you bolt it all in. Works well.

In WA if you cut the tunnel it has to be certified by a engineer and welded by a certified welder.

a mate of mine wazza on this site squeezed an s13 gearbox into a standard manual tunnel with lots of hammering and some minor 'relief' points. it can be done just depends on how good you are with problem solving and fixing stuff like that.

my mate just got one of those maddat tunnels and it fits like a z car into a 1200 club.
Took alot of cutting and welding to get it right and i wouldn't say we are completely useless when it comes to that sort of stuff. Have fun with the maddat tunnel!!

I'm with Sooty Grunter. If you have the time stitch in a new tunnel that will allow you to remove the gearbox without taking out the motor as well. I really wish I had done this during my conversion.
