2nd hand extractors
Posted on: 2003/5/7 4:49
I bought the 2nd hand genie extractors from Ange. they have a bit of surface rust and clay in the collector but are still solid and sound. The issue is regarding if i can just sand off the surface rust and paint them with a pressure can of exhaust paint?
Also they are a bit rough in the port mouths where the exhaust enters the extractor pipes. apart from that should they work okay?

Sounds like the extractors are fine. You can sand them yourself and use some extractor heat resistant paint,or have them sandblasted and paint them yourself with the heat R paint, or if looking for a better look and quality(one that will last), have them sandblasted and professionally coated, the professionally coated ones(do not know how you guys call that in Australia/NZ) last for a long time, and resist corrosion much better. Depends on the degree of results you are after.
Anyways, you should have a healthier engine w/ the extractors. Jaime.

hey mik i dont know if i'd bother getting them professionally coated... after all u spend you probably could have bought new ones... although it would give best results....
if you have access to a sandblaster i would definately do that other wise spend some time sanding... and as long as the surface is clean and you use the correct paint you wont have a problem.... let me know how you go! good luck

no chance spending money on profesionals with my car, unless i bugger something up (most of the time hehe) but i have heaps of sand paper, an engraver and some emmery grinders, and $8 for a can of exhaust paint, oh and two coathangers to hold the extractors off the ground. Ange look at me and my, car, if i could justify new ones, i would have got them, but in the end, an means to an end. if they work ggod, great if not, i had fun trying. (They look ok though)
Immitation chrome anyone?

i wouldnt go anything outragous... your car's never gonna look any better by changing colour of extractors hehe... and imitation chrome looks exactly that....
personally i'd just go black or another colour which may be common on your motor at the most ... quit thinkin about it and do it! hehe good luck

ahhh, live the dream i hear you say ange... 2 utes huh, that means two conversions, one ca18det and maybe a 13b rotor for "fun".
Has this got you thinking yet. Nah was going to spray them black anyway, its cheaper by $2 when on special at super cheap. Off the topic, i know where i can ge a couple of a12 rotors at a good price, im starting to get tempted.. are you?
