Ummmm, I don't think it was the CA that broke the axle.

I have a couple of tools that were designed just for the job that you have. They are basically a length of heavy fencing wire, [or thin rod] with a spiral cone at each end. That makes 4 ends in all with different sized cones for different sized axles. The idea is to slide the right size end into the axle housing untill the wound cone reaches the axle & you turn it as if you were screwing it onto the axle stub, which in fact is what you are doing. The fact that is is made of spring steel makes it all work & once you have got it on firmly, you simply pull it out.

In the old days, cars broke axles all the time & many garages [not service stations] actually carried a stock of popular ones, so this is the sort of place that might still have one of these axle remover tools, assuming that any older workshops still exist in your area.

While you have it jacked up, pull ther other axle & have a good look at it, particularly in the area of the splines. This act might just save you from a repeat performance shortly after returning the car to service.

Pull the other side axle out and hit out from that side with a long rod.

i normally pull the center out completly so you can get all the shattered metal out of the housing, once its out, like freak said hit it with a long solid screwdriver or something

it should have snapped the axle fairly close to the centre, so you should just be able the pull the centre out with the part of the axle still in it

Get the other axle out..two bucks says the spline will be screwed(as in twisted)and i'll be surprised if the diff bearings or housing area are not damaged as well.Once it's all out report back..Good Luck

okay bert was right other axle isnt to bad but the center bearings are rooted not to worry i have another center it just a bigger job than i thought. will have to get the welder onto it then have to change brakes over. i dont have a bearing press so that makes life a bit harder. but thats what ya get. cheers guys

Have fun Matt, two of us have got this change down to 20 minutes now,but then we've had years of practice.
Do a ring around for prices on bearings and carrier replacement/repairs,nothing worse than having a busted diff under the bench on a Sat. arvo when you break another
