i didnt like the carby idea myself thats why i went for injection but it worked fine on low boost, i would be interested in how cheap you can actually make the carby hats, thats just how much i paid for it, stainless and tig welding labor aint cheap. but good luck

The purpose of the box or hat is to equalise the pressure acting on the carb jets.

Carbs rely on the ventury/suction effect of the air going through the carb to suck fuel through the jets to create the air/fuel mixture your engine runs on.
If you just pressurise the air intake on the carb no fuel will get into the engine - it will just blow air backwards through the jets.

Sealing the whole carb as opposed to just the top ensures air doesn't get blown out around the throttle spindles etc.

You also need to devise to keep the fuel pressure at around 3-4psi above boost pressure.

stainless is a bit much these days. even if i could afford to look good i would still do the welding myself. EFI is a bit excessive for my goals at the moment, so i'll stick with my 32/36 and see how far it gets me

frankthedolphintrainer was it you that had the turbo manifolds made? if i do decide to go ahead with this i mite get one off ya. but i'll let ya know anyway.

thanks for the info lads

For what its worth, if I was about to embark on this caper I would get a big SU and go draw through, with water/meth injection decent boost is still possible without an intercooler.

I'm with you Sidedraught. Just finished a suck through manifold yesterday and am now trying to find a 1 3/4 Su. Not sure where to plumb the water/meth yet because I don't want to pit my turbo.

how do you get the throttle cable through the box? poke it through a hole and silicone it up?

hehe blow through propane systems are cool :)

no carbs to box or anything, just add a boost reference line on the vaporizer and away I go...

it's gonna be cool!

thats a good question, which is why i never went down the boxed carb way. i thought of using a carby throttle piece that connects to another throttle piece which then connects up to the internal carby. i know it sounds crazy but that was the best design i thought of and the method of using a bolt to turn the throtle aswell but they both have there flaws.
