Those in the motor industry already know, but a huge amount of the components used in new vehicles on the showroom floor today are being sourced from China and equally povo parts of the world now(even our home grown) I could tell some stories that would have me in front of a judge if so inclined. You would be pressed to find too many parts are actually coming from where you think they should be from(forget about genuine packaging,it's a joke)it's a worldwide stage now,and kept in check by the beancounters at the top level. As a few of you have said, these povo parts of the world are the new Japan or old depending how you look at it.

from day one japans products have been quality.
China is different, crap all the way for things that matter.
Even coles and safegay have most processed food made in china.
Buy local where you can otherwise buy quality.

hi kkr have been making turbos in china for years for industrial and truck applications there not a bad thing and cheap as chips but...there are a huge number of knock off companys making stuff that have just started doing it chinese intercoolers are ok its just a box with fins after all pressure test it before use for your own piece of mind
if you buy from a local supplier you can take things back if they are no good if you buy mail order or privately you have no comeback caveat emptor (let the buyer beware)
i work in a performance machine shop and we disassemble and "fix" every "bolt on" high performance cylinder head we buy ,this is because all this stuff is production line manufactured and they dont know what i want to do with it. turbo ,supercharged ,nitrous ,stock replacement all have diiferent requirements same applies to every other part on a car

1 thing I've had very bad luck with is batteries, alkaline or lead acid, they don't last as long as they should. A lead acid battery should last more than a year.
Part of what is being done is they make inferior products, then offer a warranty such that even if the item fails in the warranty period, they give you another inferior replacement, and maybe a 3rd replacement. In some people's eyes, that would be good enough, like lifetime warranted brake pads...
There is no good answer, we make crap in america and mexico too, but it's better ( more expensive ) than the chinese crap. Before too long there will be someplace known for making even cheaper items and we can complain about the crap made there.
Be an informed consumer, buy good parts, know where they actually came from, be cautious of a super good deal.
To a limited extent, this is the OEM vs aftermarket parts too, the NOS OEM parts were actually made in japan and might be better quality ( 30 years older... probably better quality ) The after market replacements might be NOS, or a bad copy or a decent improved part ( rarely)
You really have to know what you're buying...

meh, i always say buyer beware.
somethings you cant compromise on but china's quality is way better than Japans was when they were evolving.
The crap parts you have to watch for are from India. thats where the quality really lacks presently (and india is coming up really quick too).
For $20 what do you expect. Im a tight a$$ but still you would seriously think about some things as bening too cheap.
have witnessed some good chinese intercoolers and radiators operating well after a couple of years. They do 99% of the job a top brand one does as thats what they are copied off in the first place.
Just remeber what Kieffer Sutherland said in the lost boys " how can 1billion chinese be wrong michael"

I have to agree that the Chinese will learn very quickly... you only have to look at some of the companies that have been making products there for a while. One example is fishing gear... I can buy a good chinese boat rod now for $35 which would have cost $180+ in the past. Companies like Okuma have been making the gear now for 10 years, and it's every bit as good as the expensive stuff you buy from Daiwa etc (which by the way is also now made in China anyway!)
They seem to be pretty new at this whole performance parts thing, but they will get there without a doubt.
Watch out for the fly by nighters that do one run, then shut the factory! (Happens a lot over there).
But yeah - don't bitch about something you bought for $20... considering the last custom 3 core radiator I got made up was $500, and that was several years ago now.

if u really want to buy cheap stuff with acceptable quality, go for Taiwan made products. as they are still treat 1200 as collectors' car but not as China "poor people's car".

Unfamilia the japanese cars from the early sixties, parts and home furnishings where a world beyong the quality of initial chinese products. The chinese are getting better but still alot of quality control issues.
The culture is totally different, Chinese dont give a crap while japs do or cant sleep at night.
Be careful in generalising incorrect facts.
Intercoolers arent much different but turbos are not like german or jap ones.
