Another CA Question.. what is this??

Hi all,
Im using a fwd engine in my ute.. all mounted in and now starting to to bits around the engine.. just want to know what the thing behind the cam gears is for..? as you can see it has a pipe coming out each side... Sensor Maby?? its not connected to the cam covers at all so not just for cam cover pressure.... Any help would be great.... Is there a crankcase breather on the exhaust side at the front? Kinda looks like its a one way valve for the PCV?
