maddatto Posted on: 2008/2/18 10:53
Been working on my baby project and discovered blue painted tail shaft. In my old days at Nissan i seem to remember we fitted these tailshafts for recall or warranty...Can anyone shed light on this?Too many bourbons has not helped.

i doubt it this car has genuine low mileage and is totally original. Also the paint is a satin finish with no colours under it and no paint on diff and under car...It triggered in my memory but i can remember why...

Generally speaking light blue tailshafts are the ones manufactured in Australia. At the time Nissan and other manufactures fitted parts from overseas or Australia.

Like the Borg Warner (Aust) and Overseas Banjo type diffs used in the KE 35-55 series corollas of the 70's.

So it would be these light blue tailshafts with the non serviceable uni's?

The light blue ones I have got from a 180b and 1200 have removable uni's

Not 100% but thought Blue donated Aust parts.

Not hard to tell if unis are replacable, but the shafts I have you can service them.

thanks guys!
I vaguely remember replacing people tailshafts under warranty with blue painted ones. That would have been for R31 mainly though so the Borg Warner thing makes sense.I have just checked the shaft and it has no markings in it at all but the unis are replaceable and greasable and have GMB Japan on them? This car is fun to work on everything is so small...the unis are tiny!
