maddatto Posted on: 2008/2/18 10:57
I am sure the hard core guys know this but the guys at All Crash Parts in Brisbane have the rust repair sections that have eluded me till this point and at cheap prices too.Sills were $70 and screen rubbers were $49..helped me out anyway..In my search for a bigger A series engine and 5 speed box...YES go on Laugh..The wrecker i was referred to had one and said last offer was $2500 and he turned it down...

I have thought about a modern engine and yes the power is there but i am building this car on a budget so i decided to find an A14 or 15.I am building the modded body first. If i get a cash injection i can always change motors later...

True
You know its funny but i used to be the one who 'cleaned up' parts depts in dealerships after changing hands etc and its funny the stuff i found. There must be still a lot of OE parts around.I last worked for Nissan in 92....

The amount of things that would get thrown away scares me...

I cleaned up a Holden dealer in western Qld that old stock of Nissan and Suzuki parts when they took over the business in around 95
I saw parts for Patrols that had been obsolete for a long time and there was C210 parts as well.I had a huge early morning sale and sold all the OEM parts inc a heap of OEM GMH stuff..security called me at 5am and told me people were waiting LOL

The worst thing was i found loads of old parts books that i hadnt ever seen before.I kept them as i couldnt bear to throw them away and when i moved i sent them via rail in boxes which somehow vanished in transit and no one could ever find them...Probably ended up in some unclaimed auction or something like that

If someone offered him $2,500 for the gearbox then he was crazy, but it the wrecker knocked it back, ... then he's insane.

There are a total of 5 different 5 speeds for the A series in three sizes & while they are not cheap, I don't believe that any of them are actually worth that kind of money.
I recently purchased two of the excedingly hard to find 56A 'option one' competition gearboxes [one is a parts proposition] & it wasn't necessary to get within a bulls roar of that figure.

They are out there & patience is a virtue.
