I've got MR30 struts and brakes in my daily and thats only got an L16 with 40mm's.

Now I wouldn't be very clever or responsible if I was running around with a stanza disc brake upgrade. For one, the stanza only runs an L16 with downdraught nikki carb and isn't meant to be driven very hard, and secondly stanza brakes really aren't that good.

There will be people that tell you their stanza brakes work fine on the track and never get brake fade but they will know how to drive fast and smooth and won't use them nearly as much as a lesser skilled driver. I've seen more than one driver get into trouble on a fast hills cruise.

Overbrake the thing, just take a look at the brakes that are on small japanese cars these days, definitely no solid 12mm discs on the front.

my 2-cents worth anyway.

but they'd be fine im not planing to race this car its just a street car and if i was gonna be "using" the brakes it would only be for a corner or two surly they'd have to be fine with street use but than again i dont know ill most likely be doing the diff also with this build and the diff will come with new rear brakes so than thay'd be fine.everyone has said that ill break the diff with the power that im looking to get even if its the slighty bigger h165 ill probly go for one off maddat.com its compleatly done . but ill have to see what happens

peak hour traffic need i say more..most of the braking power is done with the front brakes so upgrading just the back wont do that much. do a s13 conversion as it wont brake the bank or unless u got $$ to burn get the maddat front brake kit $1410 n the diff upgrade $2450. u also might want 1 of there booster kits made for ca conversions $700..thats $4500 just in brakes but youll stop on a dime

Robert..

wats the average cost to get everything done correctly, starting from scratch, by that i mean buying motor and gearbox and installing?

My interpretation of doing it correctly would be to do everything at once. No skipping brakes or tellling yourself that you won't go hard on the standard diff. Imagine getting the engine in and running and going on your first drive only to find you can only putt round in it...boring!

Just save up until you have enough money to do the WHOLE conversion proplerly. That way you won't have to worry if you're going to leave the diff behind while leaving every set of lights or if you're going to be able to stop before the next set.

That's what I've done anyway.

If you want another combo of what people are using, I'm getting a commodore diff with commodore front brakes as well. That way I get 5 stud pattern all round as well.

Our engineer said that the wagon must have slotted front discs as a minimum, ain't no datto got them (methinks). I reckon you'd struggle to get an engineer that would pass it without this kind of upgrade.

Kirstie and I are going parts trawling tomorrow. High on the agenda are some Landcruiser calipers, as we'll probably do the Verada disc upgrade. From what I've read on this site and Ozdat it seems like a very cost effective conversion.

There is no need to use brand new parts. Recycling old gear is a great way to save money and do your bit for the environment. Most datto's out there repay their 'carbon footprint' with the sheer amount of second hand parts fitted to them. Just make sure you fully recondition any part (such as brake calipers) that you intend to use in this way.

you need more than stanza brakes and a h165, i know because thats what i have in mine with a stock ca and the diff has broken twice and there is no where near enough stopping power.

My CA 1200 sedan has around 320HP and it run stanza brakes at the front with cross drilled+slotted DBA rotors with EBC pads and R31 discs at the rear... brake fade is never a problem but brake bias is... it locks up the rears first, its ok if you are setting up for corners in a racing situation but its not what you want if you need to brake in the wet in a hurry on the street... i will be upgrading the fronts sometime soon me thinks.
