americans seem to like being amateur drag racers or something, they want a low 60 foot time in a minivan or a truck or economy car. This makes no sense at all, but it's how people here drive, every green light, people blast away, trucks and minivans being the most aggressive of all.
I think it might be good for america to pay more for fuel, people have bought big cars that get lousy mileage to look cool to their friends. Apparently the pain hasn't reached the brain yet.

a few years back when the fuel in oz started going up it sat at about 85 cents per litre then quickly crept up to about 1.15 there was a massive decrease in people buying australias larger cars, ill be interested to see america go down the same path

Bert, you Aussies are not alone. Here in NZ the govt just love it- the higher the fuel goes the more gst they collect. Then there are all the other add ons and proposed add ons- like Kyoto obligations.... What is of greater concern is the reasons for the present record prices- traders screwing up the market and making obscene profits along the way! Any excuse will do and bang, up she goes again- its total bullsh#t and one can only wonder where it will end. One thing I can tell you is that oil is a commodity and historically what goes up with a hiss and a roar can drop just as quick. The sooner auto manufacturers get on top of alternative energy systems and we can give those bastards the finger the better- but then they'll probably own that technology themselves... Then there is the small matter of since when did our oil companies buy oil on the spot daily market- only too quick to pass on any price hikes overseas yet both our dollars continue to rise against the USD and are they passing those savings on as they should be- I don't think so.Finger on the trigger to react when prices rise but pathetically slow to pass on any decreases. And what do our elected protectors of the nation do about it- nothing. Go mountain biking and f#ck the oil companies! Cheers Dave

Not quite $2 per litre, we pay on average at the moment 1.60 per litre, im not old enough to convert it haha. and with that, woolies threw out the 4cents a litre off dockets wen u spend $30 or more, instead you sign up 4 a card and it gets put on that, so when u fill up u scan the card and voila, u get 4 cents off, problem is u dont know if you have any tokens on it or not, or if they've expired.. 4 cents in the scheme of things in filling up a 60litre tank on saves a couple dollars.. adds up i spose

i paid 14.1 cents per litre for shell 98 octane on the way out to willowbank yesterday... the pump wasn't working as they were changing over the prices, and somehow it went to .141 instead of 1.41 , i filled it to the brim and paid $3.58
