i don't wanna sound critical, but have we all learnt something from this?

don't bother with automatics...

in my opinion, they should be used in limos, taxis, designated drag cars and anything old and cruisey. Nothing else.

i'm sorry to sound grumpy, but i have as much time for automatic transmissions as a fat kid has for fruit.

anyway, glad you got to the bottom of the problwem...

Sounds to me like you need to learn something about auto's as it's plain & obvious that you know very little now.

Auto's have a great deal to offer to all classes of car users but, like engines, you need to know & understand them. Once you do, you can tailor their performance to suit your needs.
Some of the quickest cars in the world use modified engines & modified auto's to match, & so do some of the best street cars.

EDIT
Auto's love torque & what makes more torque than a pressurised power plant.

At the start of this i did say I have several "classic" jap cars These include: B10 A15 turbo, 5 Speed, Sigma scorpion 2.6 turbo 5 Speed, 240z Triple 45`s, cam, 5 speed blah blah blah.
My "cedric" is a big car 1600+ kgs with power steering to match, Iv thought of making it manual (it would be the only manual in Aus.) But i just love the laid back, easy driving style of an auto in this car.
I know autos sap the life out of a "Drivers car" But you cant beat that feeling as it shifts from 1-2 under full boost. and blowing all those vl, vn,boys away.
I supose I just like the challenge, When was the last time you saw Datsun`s flagship of the 70`s on the road?

Yes, automatics are better in some ways:

* Drag racing: the fastest cars run automatics in stock and modified classes. The altered automatics shift faster than manual transmissions

* Practically all the new Ferraris are automatics. The new ones shift in 1/100 second, so hardly anyone orders a manual transmission anymore... Unless they are a true "driver" and don't mind having the slower model...

Me, I really like 4-speed autos: You can have your luxury and fuel economy too. My favorite is a midsize car with a bench seat and column shift... leaves my arm free to put around my wife on a Sunday drive.

manual valve body automatics are probably the best, fast ####ing, no internal intelligence trying to upshift all the time.
^^ did i typo up here or is shifting a dirty word now?
oh I typed ####-ing left out an F... oops!

yeah if you go the power, there's nothing wrong with a good auto, but short of the paddle shift ones, they suck.

auto and turbos always seem to work well too, always power through the shifts while never venting boost like a manual. so they pull like a train.

Easy for sity cruising and kid friendly driving too.

a well made auto won't shift into 1st from 4th no matter what you do, so it's hard to break them that way, and no bent pushrods either.

I just hated all the power they waste and fighting the ECU/TCU all the time when I was rallying, but not having to think and just shift was nice, as was tearing around in second or third gear and putting the shifter into 1 and having it not downshift till i was going first gear speeds was kinda neat, though initally it seemed like first was left on the road somewhere.

I did have a video of that, but it's all black with brush and rocks tearing by... there were a few oopese in that tape...

reminds of that old Cake song, "stickshifts, safety belts, buckets seats have all go to go... cause when I'm driving, in my car, it makes my baby seem sooo far...."

and datsonovic why not just use a one way valve and leave it connected as is? (after replacing the modulator valve). This will stop the boost pressurising the line but will still allow the auto to see the vacuum.

You'll need a very small leak after the non return valve or else the vacuum will never dissapate.
