well i just can't argue with 135hp@6400rpm from a stock CA18DE, show me a standard A or L 4pot that does that, and by the time u get that from either of them you've spent a great wod of cash. look at the price of the CA18 an see what u spend on the A or L to get the same ponies, reliability, fuel economy etc. give me the CA.

Sometimes it's not about the power, the technology or even the cost.
Sometimes it's about asthetics, class, style & the ability to relive another time when the technology just wasn't around.

The latest V8 crate motors are hard to beat in a hot rod, yet many are still rebuilding the dinosour Flathead Ford V8 for their cars at VAST expense.
Sometimes it just about geting the feeling right.
That's the best reason of all.

topgears turbo conversion made 96kw at the wheels??? that was a budget build on a stock as a rock a12. he did a simple draw through setup using an old su style carb and had it blow into a custom manifold that he made himself wasnt using any amazing technology probably would have cost him under $500 to setup
heres the link to that thread topgear turbo

OMFG i just realised i am nuttier than a Lada Fanatic!!Here i am putting moden seats,AC,rack & pinion, better suspension,c/locking,LED lights all round and yet i was leaning towards the old motors....somebody slap me!I guess i will have to use the 1200 engine with nothing wrong with it as a door stop..Tell you whats nuttier though i have 3 kids and a wife(yes thats nutty)but i bought a 4 seater car!!didnt think about that when i bought it because i have 1600's it didnt even dawn on me until i stripped the interior and checked the compliance plate..feel soooo stupid..anyway its good ploy to get away from the missus..sorry dear no room today.

and thats pretty much the reason why im buying a rally prepped L18 for my sedan...for the money i could easily put a CA in it and have more power, but the L series looks at home in a 1200
and its so much better beating the average falcon and commodore v8 and still being able to say its an NA carby'd motor

I ran a worked A15 in 1000 coupe, and blowing off V8s with an A series gives more satisfaction ( I believe) than doing it with a modern motor, (not that the L series is a modern motor, just less prehistoric)

I couldn't agree more, when I pop the hood on my 1960s car there is only 1960s technology looking back at me, but it still rips.

Yeah I was in the same vote.
old school car & old school power.
and using the same period rule:
nothing beats cubes

so I went with the l20b with twin carbs.

Oh and I love it enough to drive to everyday.

cheers
