What the deal with getting large things shipped from the US to Australia, such as engines and gearboxes?

Can someone recommend a service, and how much does it cost approximately?

It might be worth going to speak to an importer of American muscle cars or something like that. They sometimes bring "crate" engines etc over, so they would know what the best way to go about it would be.

I work for Nissan and can get Nissan Australia Freight Rate Pricing and last week I got a quote from Christmas Vally Oregon for an A series 5 speed and the massive discount rate was over $800. They only do air mail though. There is a place in Airport West Melbourne that quoted me a couple of years ago for up to 250kg on a skit it would cost me $300 to sent to most parts of America providing they had company based location. I can't remember the company name though.

These are from NZ to:
AU$260 to Melborne/ Sydney
AU$308 to Perth
AU$338 to Adelaide

engines are a little difficult and expensive to ship due to weight, things under 150 lbs are 'easy' a 63a tranny crated only cost $80 to ship within the states, international more, but not obscene, and if you can wait, sending it by ship takes a while but will save a lot of money.

B210sleeper do you know who ships things up to 150lbs? I guess an a-series gearbox is about 30 kg (66 pounds).

UPS, FED EX, maybe DHL
150 lbs is typically the cutoff between parcel and freight...

an a series gearbox is about 75lbs...

Phils Rotarys gave me a $600 AUS price quote to ship 2 front fenders...The fenders are $100 each brand new...but the shipping is going to kill the deal!
Our USA dollar isn't worth much these days!!

OK, once you go over 75 lbs, then it is pallet shipping... weight is not important, it is size.

Engine or transmission is about $450 shipping cost.
