A couple of weeks ago, I emailed Holley Aust. (In case everyone doesn't know, Holley have owned Weber for years.) All I wanted was a sketch of the layout of the bolt holes on the mounting flange of a 45DCOE.
They came back after a couple of days asking me to consider one of their manifolds.
I went back explaining that the manifold I was making was for a race car and that theirs would not suit.
The silence from then has been deafening.

Weber make a great carby, pity about the crap back up service.

I think their response was reasonable. It's not something they would need to have on file. They could have said that maybe.

Buy your carbies before making the manifold, then you don't need to ask them for anything.

Chris.

Sorry, but I don't agree.
The fact is that I want to make the manifold before I do anything about carbies.
In any event, the info requested is hardly a state secret and should be available as a service.
If I was making the manifolds in bulk for sale to other Datto people, I bet the attitude would be different, because each manifold would most likely have one or more of their products on it.

What are you trying to acheive with your planned manifold? I am a little confused as to why ready made manifold wouldn't "suit " your race engine. They are in the business of marketing manifolds so enquiries from some one wanting to make their own could be considered a bit cheeky. As for the dimensions buy a gasket for a DCOE and work from that . Depending on what brand throttle linkages you use will determine the spacing between the carbs.

Well, there two things.

Firstly, the car is to be built from scratch--- it will be rear engined (using a Renault box)with the engine hanging over on a 25 Deg. angle to lower the profile. A proprietry manifold will not be able to handle this.

Secondly, I won't use gaskets between carb and manifold -- they aren't recommended. Soft mount O rings are the answer.

I'll say again Holley Aust service is an unhelpful bag of crap and I'll borrow a carb and make my own arrangements

Stirlingmac wasn't suggesting you use a gasket between the carbs, just for the dimensions you are asking Holley to supply you. For a couple of bucks it makes a cheap template, and an ounce of lateral thinking can save you alot of headaches.

When you're building a car from scratch, you're gunna have to get used to making your own arrangements...

Yep, when designing and building you have to think outside the square.........

Odds are with your attitude, you'll never achieve much. Stop bitching and do your own work.

This will be the fifth car I've built so I reckon I'll be able to get by.

How many have you built?

I build houses and I don't complain when things don't go my way. My response was harsh, sorry.
