which is why i bought said $250 skyline...was on ebay a short while back
and the car weighs over a ton, so there is an easy $200 scrap and its easy to find some poor VL owner that needs a new engine....so if mmmy maths skills are working you end up with a free or near free diff

the wreckers near me, infact all wreckers near geelong charge around $200 for complete open centre skyline and pintara diffs

ebay has skyline gears for under $200 BIN
and skylines and pintaras arent exaclty rare...so neither are the gears, just not as common as 3.08 commo gears
and 3.7 would have been the rarest i would have thought, only coming in 5 speed skylines and some VLs i think

what car had 28 spline 2.77 ???
to my understanding ford dropped those ####ty gears in favour of 3.23 and 3.27
when they went to 28 spline in EBs

maybe i should phrase it like this, all gears between 3.08 and 4.11 will interchange on centres that also had these gears

This is getting off subject but scrappys dont pay 200 dollars for a ton of scrap its around the 80-100 dollar mark, unless its worth double wherever your from. full stop.
And you will have trouble giving an rb 30 away. i know i have had many and they like skylines aren't worth diddly squat.
And try finding a r31 skyline in the wreckers that has a good diff in it, they are usually pintaras and the diff is well worn as pintaras diffs always ended up being noisy, wearing the crown wheel and pinion and being 25 spline are only worth the gears anyhow if they aren't worn.
See, thing is, i have actually looked for these things and up here in qld at least, fact is there are plenty of pintaras around, usually with stuffed diffs( they had huge problems and recalls to fix the things under warranty) but it is quite uncommon to find a r31 skyline diff that hasn't been abused and maybe 1 out of 10 at the wreckers are actually skylines, not pntaras.
I think you may be incorrect in saying there are 3.7 gears available, no vl ever was made with these gears and factory literature make no mention of skylines ever having these, even as an option. I will have a chat to a former nissan mechanic tomorrow who i work with to confirm this, if you like so you can know once and for all.

ANYHOW, I still have this diff available if anyone is interested in buying it. I want 400 dollars for it, and if you want to find a 250 dollar skyline on ebay, within a reasonable distance and convince the owner to let you pull the diff out at his/her place and then try and convince some srcappy to give you more than 50 bucks for it, go for gold! All the best to you, i wish you luck.
If you want this diff you can come and pick it up, take it home or to a workshop and start doing what needs to be done to put it in you datsun.

A1 nissan wreckers at coopers plains will sell the same diff to you for 200. i paid 400 for a 3.9 lsd about a month ago private sale and its got no play in it at all. yes i probably got a good deal but thems the facts

3.9 were auto R31 skylines and 3.7 were manual. silhouettes had lsd of the same ratios.

The skyline ratio 3.89:1 is common for getting noisy. When I worked at a diff place years ago people were always being told that they needed new diff bearings when they needed a new crownwheel / pinion set. Ebay prices are getting ridiculous. People seem to be taking the impulse buying to a whole new level. They say online shopping has reduced the price of consumer products but all it has done for us is inflated the price of already hard to get stuff with the worldwide audience.

what would i know ive only got a scrap bin sitting at my place and have may reciepts for $180-200 a ton for just plain old scrap steel
and yeah the gears, was unsure about the VL...but as ive got 3.7 skyline gears in my car currently($30 off ebay) i know they exist also kinda proves my point that they would be the most uncommon BW gears

Well it's called a commodity boom for a reason - and certainly we're getting $180 - $200 a ton for scrap steel down here in Adelaide. You obviously haven't sold any scrap for a while

Let's just hope that too many people don't send their old Datsuns to the scrap metal merchants without realising that people might actually want them!

Oh - and I used to have a manual R31 silhouette which had a 3.7 LSD, so they certainly exist - it was also listed in the glovebox handbook for the silhouette.
