i need info as i am looking to increase power slightly in a daily driver, i have a 78 120y 4 door sedan, is that a bw 68 diff? if so would that be strong enough for any upgrade of engine, eg:a14 or a15?. if yes where can i get such a motor...and would it be compatible?, if not a straight bolt in operation, whats the best way to increase power to my current motor?. thanks

p.s how much hp can you get out of an a12? can it be turbocharged or is that just not possible on such a small motor?

Increasing power slightly??
your diff should take a fair bit of power as long as it doesn't cop to much punishment, like burnout comps!, a mate of mine has just recently installed a worked L20 in his 120y sedan and it seems to be working fine for him as a daily driver. certaily handle a A15- A14 midly worked.

As for upgrading power to your current motor, asuming its A12, lots of way u can increase performance- carbies, extractors etc, depends on how much cash you have at your disposal. A good simple turbo set up is a good upgrade. but all depends on your cash flow

i think the 120y comes out with a H150 diff, i could be wrong!

Yes! turbo is possible, just use the search function on the left
<----------------------------------

Big hp usually means big dollars! my suggestion is keep an eye on what people are selling through this site or there is always ebay, there are performance parts that come up from time to time, and do a little research, talk to some mechanics/enthusitists. Have a think about what the car is going to used for? is it just a daily driver or will it spend weekends on a track? if its a daily driver then a mildly worked would be better than a fully blown, race bred fire breathing beast.

Welcome to datsun land, most people on this site will be willing to help you with you future endeavours!

thanks, pretty sure its a stock 120y..so a12 then yes? would a turbo on my a12 give me more power than a stock a14-15? can i switch it to fuel injection?, money is not the main problem, i just want to make the easiest choice with a comparable payoff, you know what i mean? where can i find a turbo that would fit, i've tried to do my homework but its not easy finding parts for a 78, thanks for the tips always appreciated

yeah i thought it was theh150, but it says in another website that all the 4 door sedans were aussie built and came with the borg warner version, i'm not sure what a "salisbury" type diff actually does, or how strength can be increased due to this design, i will have to pop under the car and check, but there is little relevant info on this diff anywhere it seems

the main problem with A series turbo systems is you have to fabricate your own manifold and peice together parts from other cars, same with fuel injection set-ups. These come up for sale on ebay and this site, just keep your eye out you may be lucky!
