You know I have never actually been in a performance vehicle? I have never hopped in a mates car that has had all the works (like serious work not massive subwoofers or neon lights like a f'in christmas tree).

I was thinking about this just last night, the A14 I'm building for my 1000 is going to be the first performance motor I've put together.

So that means my 1969 Datsun 1000 2 door will be the first performance vehicle I have EVER ridden AND DRIVEN!! So you can understand the excitement at the moment.

i couldnt imagine whata 300hp ca 1200 would be like!

if you collected info from all the members about which "performance" vehicles they have
driven or were a passenger in, Im sure there would be a very long list.

yet we all have a passion for datto's.

you've made the right choice

The fastest cars I have driven so far is a 10 second XA GT, an 11 sec BA XR6 turbo APS uteand my mates400 odd HP LX torana. Ball tinglingly fast. I have owned a 13 sec torana and a 14 sec torana and a few 20 sec datsuns.

Don't worry too much. The 1000 may not be a screamer in a straight line but it's the corners that make driving interesting.

dunno if you could call falcons perfromance cars guys....sheeez.... they might be a suped up taxi but not a true performance car.
its not until you drive a truly fast open wheeler then you could say youre in a performance car.....i have driven a couple with wanting to build my own 1UZ powered Brabham Formula 1 replica in a few years time, and even if you have only 100kw behind you corner entry and braking is insane in a 400kg car.

quickest cars i've been in are,
1) my uncles XY falcon, fully worked 351 about 850 hp at the flywheel, got kicked out from the old sydney dragstrip for going to fast without proper saftey equipment like cage, parachute etc, did a low 9 second pass, he spent about $18 000 on the engine alone, all up $50 000.
2)My uncles mates torana, 350 chevy with a 355 stroker kit, run a 10sec pass and was pissed off that my uncle was quicker, $20 000 worth of engine, the meanest burnout car ever! last i heard it was dynoed at 650Hp at the wheels, currently rebuilding the engine, AGAIN!!!! and wants to run supercharger and NOS.

The quickest dato i've been in is my best mates Dato 1600( the Gold dato at the dat nationals in golburn, 87 i think his number was, he's on the video bob is he's name) he has got it recently tuned to Just over 300Bhp with 1000 lbs of tourque, completly ahiliates skylines and the like, the only thing that has beat him is a gemini with a 1J. Bobs Dato is a complete wepon! when he gets traction!!

My CA18DET coupe was good to drive, if fact any turbo car is fun to drive i can say that i'm a boost junkie!

Gotta love Quick quarters AND good track times!!!
I'm guessing it is still reasonably streetable and smooth to drive?
Telltail signs of a well balanced car in MY opinion.
