Maybe it would be wise for someone to mention that if you don't compress springs before undoing the big nut that holds them in that they pop off at a million miles and hour!

I've heard of people getting killed by their own springs!

i undo the top nut all the time without spring compressors...mind you i use a rattle gun and brute strength to over power the spring

coz you need brute strength to overpower a spring as stiff as a 1200 one
