The 5 speed transmission you mention is from a 77-78 B210 (120Y). I have one in my 1200 coupe, it's easy to get in if your 1200 was originally an automatic with a wider transmission tunnel. Use the auto tranny mount and make an adapter plate that will move the mounts to the right spot.

Hey Andrew, its Scott. Well davo to rest of you. There are 2 types of 5 speed. Both with the reverse were 1st should be, but ratios are very different. All 5 speeds have a 5th as 1:1. Option 1 gearbox was intended for road use (i guess because of the ratios) and the other for circuit use because of the high ratio for 1st gear (2.676:1-option2, 3.757:1-option1) and close ratios to the 1:1 5th gear. I have a option 1 i think as i havent installed it yet. (i do too many burnouts and dont wanna ruin it, there bloody expensive) Davo

Davo, you're not quite right with your info. In addition to the 2 5 speed dogleg type gear boxes that you mentioned there is another!!....it has the same dogleg type shift pattern but has an overdriven 5th gear. It comes out I think in the Datsun 140y model. It is considerably stronger than the 2 that you are talking about but the ratios are not as good. Hope this is of some help. Cheers, Bob

A 140y from what I undersatnd, is a Datsun Violet shaped model which came out with the A14 engine rather than the more popular L series 1600 OHC. It also had a solid diff rather than the independant setup in the 160J Cheers, GTX1200

There must be quite a few types of 5Spd boxes, because I have installed an H pattern 5 Spd into my 1200 Coupe Racecar. It is from an early 80's Datsun Sunny GX (B210) and has an overdriven 5th. The other ratios are almost identical to the standard H56A 4 Speed. It bolts straight up to the A14 with modifications to the rear mounts.
