Brent,

I work at a metal fabrication workshop (here in PNG) and I can tell you that our rates are shockingly low in respect to Australian standards. We do however have a lower cost of living ($1.50 beers!) though so the low rates aren't too bad.

Would you consider having them made over here? Even with all the postage it would bring the prices right down and help the little 1000 community.

I have made a draft one up here a long time ago ready to begin bigger production but I never got the time, suppliers or distributor sorted out.

What do you reckon?

I'm not trying to steal you're thunder. Just making a suggestion.

EDIT: I'll get some figures together over the next couple of days.

i would like one but i wouldnt pay 500 for something that looks like that for that price you could get it bent and made out of stainless not those bodgy welds every cople of inchers maby if it was 150 of so cheers mate

You have got no hope in hell of get one out of S/S here in oz for that price. As I am a S/S welder by trade no one would make that manifold up out of S/S for that price.
You should not bag the price of some ones work that is trying to help out other people. If you can get them for the price you say you can then put them up so other people can get the same deal as you.

well guys i am selling the one i started to make it is completly welded up needs a little bit of work, doesnt have a flange so you'd have to buy/make your own and then manipulate the collector to the right size get it welded then die grind it smooth not a hard job will fit 1000's not sure on 1200's
reason im selling is i dont like it and im starting another one call me crazy but im a perfectionist
asking price is the cost of materials $200 including postage if its under $40
pm me guys if your intrested

how can you bitch about welds that arent there yet.
its just tacked together you dick!
you have no idea what your looking at.
if its too expensive try making your own!

looks like a good thing too me
finish one off and get a pic up, it might prevent dumb comments like those below

i would reccomend using 1/2" header plate (or even thicker) to allow for machining flat again after welding. those things distort heaps. maybe you could preload some bend into them?
if you had a tab at each end to fixture in a mill it would be a lot easier to face too

I know some people bag them due to their simplicity and exhaust pulse theories but I used to have a log type manifold on a couple of different engines (fj20det and 3tc) and had good results up to 5k rpm which is where most of 80% of driving is at.

Beyond 5k the equal length designs start to do better by an average of 10% which is nothing as the loggers come on faster down low and make more power up to 5k rpm.

The savings made can shift some funds towards investing in a modern ball bearing turbo and save heaps of space.

As an example commonly now known in the Honda turbo circles these tests and others show why the cheap log style manifolds are better for the road rather than drag strip.
