Continuing the hijack, it seems people who support A-series have driven A-series, people who support twincam turbo's have driven both. I would go with the the opinion of the guy who has owned both. Me personally, twincam turbo all the way. A-series are great for an economical runaround but they just arent in the same league.

what about a hayabusa or zx-14 engine? 1.4 naturally aspirated litres making 150kw.

i have driven both i like my a series and an 11.92sec a14 pass [which was a bad run as i previosly stated] isnt in the same league as your twin cam motors?

IMO a single 11.92 second pass when almost every other A-series struggles to do a 16 does not make A-series as good as a twincam turbo. To be fair, you should compare the worlds fastest A-series to the word's fastest twincam turbo, and you would find once again that the A-series is not in the same league.

i love the a series but i have to agree with tyre it is sort of like people who think turbo sixers and fours are faster than v8ts but what hapens when you stick a turbo on a v8? and an 11 second a series would have a pretty short life span

Meh If I'm after a giant killer, I'd build and have built a Twincam turbo. If I'm after a super reliable and still relatively economical runabout that could hold it's own against standard turbo cars and other boy racers, I'd build and am going to build a turbo A14, someday...
That's not to say my Twincam isn't reliable, it's only once had problems and that was most likely because I was to lazy to open it up, clean it up, and assemble it with new gaskets. Exactly the same thing would have happened to an imported a series which has been exposed to the elements causing it to rust internally.
Real world an A series is not in the same league, it doesn't even run in the same class when you drag it. That's also where people miss the point, you're not building a A14 turbo to compete in class B where the Twincam's are going to kick your ass, that's unless you stroke it out to 1600 which would kick it into class B, and would be defying the whole exercise. It's going to run in class C where it belongs, and where it will be competitive.

i bought a freshy with everthing i needed from sump to ecu for $450 and its bolts to the a series box. i even made the existing exhaust fit. a preety cheap conversion.
