Getting 1200 going

hey my Grandad is giving me his 1200 wagon and i am getting it going this weekend and then taking it to the mechanics for the roady. The car hasn't been driven much in the last 10 years and has not been driven at all in the last 3 years.
Is there anything i should do or becareful of when starting it up? Should i change the oil before hand and should i put a bit of oil in each of the cylinders or is that not needed? If any1 has any pointers would be much appreciated! Cheers Ed

I would Definitely change the engine oil, and filter no need to put any in the cylinders it will only make it blow smoke. Make sure the brakes are working fine the brake fluid would prob be a bit dodgey. If you done need to drive it far they should be fine. Check the water level in the radiator. Good luck get some photos up!

might pay to drop a few mls of oil down the bore and see if it turns over by hand first on by the front pulley.
Drain the oil, Drian the fuel Spark plugs should be ok to start it, but you can check that while you drop about 10ml oil down each bore. Check the leads as well. Then might pay to inspect the coolant. when you get it started, leave the heater open and on to circulate coolant through tthere too as its been sitting a while.

Yeah thanks, i topped up the brake fluid n coolant the other day. Also on the engine block there is lots of old oil that has sort of turned into grease. Not sure if one of the gaskets fcked or if it's just 30 odd years of filth? I'll get some pics up after the roady! want it looking nice n pretty!
