Have an a15 thats just had a gasket set. All put together. Mounted it to a crossmember and attached the clutch and gearbox tonight. Its on the floor. Wanting to test run it on the foor to see that it runs before i get it into anything and find it needs... (insert annoying part).

Just wanting some ideas as far as a quick loom i can chuck together to to get it going.

I have the complete loom from my wagon, can i attach everything i have to the loom and itll run, grounding it all to the engine obviously.
Still has everything attached and labeled on the loom so wouldnt be hard.

ideas....

Battery and a set of jumper leads. A length of wire for the pos coil and if you want to be really rough, a screwdriver for the starter. BAM. one started engine.

*advice not intended for children under the age of 5, people with heart conditions or anyone with an IQ less than their age...*

Pfffft!! Ballast what. Jobs right. The coil will survive a test run. I once left a coil hard wired for 9 hours before it exploded. Without the motor running of course. The oil was a mongrel to clean.

haha ur a different breed rev.
A work mate of mine used to work next to a auto work shop where they frequently worked on a race 1200 coupe. one day they got bored and wide open throttled a standard a12 for lolz on a stand.
Mate said it went all day until it finally died about 11 hours later. He was cursing datsun, (read: fuking loud). after seeing that he had much respect for the mighty 12.

Any ideas on the wagon loom idea?

Too right. Your hard pressed to kill a datsun 1200 donk. I once had a cammed up little 1200 in the white sedan I rolled. I was pissed for breaking up with a chick and redlined it at 8500rpm till it siezed. I got it home, pulled the donk out and ripped the sump off. I nearly fell over when I noticed the dipstick tube was about 8 inches shorter. The sleeve had been replaced with copper tube and the crank had grabbed the dipstick and dragged it around the crank. I cut and unravelled it and Hey Presto. The motor went in and ran again until I sold it a few years later. I still find it a bit hard to believe. But it happened.

do as revhead said, full loom isnt needed

need big cable to starter, big earth to engine, power to coil, coil earth wire to where ever its supposed to go to on a points dizzy(dont need to know with electronic dizzy), and a wire to hit on the starter
then probably a gravity feeding fuel tank....should be about all you need
think thats about all i did when i slapped a turbo on the side of an A12 that i had lying around, wanted to see if it would boost....mision was a success

Yes, agreed. Just be sure to prop up the back of the motor, so the flywheel is off the ground. Less drama that way.

Run it for 15 seconds, rev it up. If it runs evenly you know it. Then turn it off and do a compression test.

its actually got a 60a on it. I want to see if the input shaft bearing has had it. On one of the other 60a's i had recently it whined more than an unpaid hooker.

Mainly just wanted to check the whole ballast resistor thang, everything else is selfexplanitory.

Cheers guys will let you know how it goes
