Can the CA survive without air reg and IACV?

Pulling off all the cooling pipes today - to get one of the junction pipes off you have to remove the air regulator.

If I wanted to remove the air regulator and then the whole Idle control system - obviously it wont idle as well, but do you think there will be any issues running the motor?

(It's a dedicated track car, and a little trouble with idling wont be too much bother, but if it makes the car run crappy at low throttle I wont do it)

i've never had any problems alot of people seem to do it. you may have to adjust the idle via the adjusting screw on the throttle linkage and reset the tps

So you've removed the whole lot including the Idle control system?

yeah i was thinking I just need to make sure the throttle is a little open at idle so the thing wont conk out.

Good to hear someone else has thought of removing it.

How weird....searching elsewhere for answers I found an answer from dattodude on a CA18 forum - from about 3 weeks ago!


...he said this...

You could do it like this:

1- remove the idle block and blank off the two holes.

2- loosen off the lock nut, and adjust open the throttle body 3 or three turns.

3- loosen the TPS adjuster, and reset the TPS to compensate for the movement you've just put onto the throttle butterfly. Adjust TPS according to the FSM.

4- Repeat steps 2 and 3 until the idle is smooth and approximately 800rpm when cold.

After this, your car will stall more often at traffic lights when car is cold.
The slightly open throttle may result in the throttle icing up, in cold climates.

You are better to replace / fix the idle control stuff unless you live in a florida climate. But be prepared for A/C to occasionally stall the engine too.

Leads me to another question then, do you run the water pipe to your turbo?

I was thinking of keeping the turbo cooling, I was further thinking of keeping the piping that goes in and out of the back of the plenum chamber, then send it on to the turbo (I figure it would cool the water a bit more that way).

What do you think?

....as a side comment it's a pity the FSM doesn't seem to cover anything to do with piping.

arde you talking about the block with the intercooler pipe going into on the side of the plenum? i want to remove mine as well, so alls i have to do is readjust the tps to get the idle right? mine wont idle below 2000 revs and it has all new injectors new fuel pump cleaned afm everything is new

yeah i have removed that but thats not the one, its the one near the fuel rail. i dont think it can be removed......
