What kind of things would keep gas out of my carb?

I have on order a weber but until then, whay would keep gas out of my carb? Looks like all new lines ran on the car. I installed a new fuel filter. What size lines should run on these components?filter to pump to carby? Sometimes there will be gas and it will run great for a few miles then the gas disapears and the car just turnsover but never sucks the gas into the carb......The glass is empty

Again, I know the carb does not suck gas it sucks ass. That's why a weber is on the way....but, until then????

Whatever is keeping the gasoline out of your stock carb will likely keep it out of the weber too.

The fuel line should be 1/4" diameter. The stock filter is between the tank and the pump. This keeps dirt out of the pump.

Potential causes:
- Fuel line could be pinched
- Fuel pump could be bad
- Carb float could be sticking
- in-tank filter inlet could be blocked

That's what I am afraid of, I am going to replace everything tomorrow hopefully. If I put my finger over the gas line where it would go into the carb I would feel pressure correct? That is assuming it is running correctly. When I take everything apart then put it back together it runs fine for a few miles.

my guess is the needle and seat in the carb.
Has happened to me many many times before. Will be sticking etc. Best bet is to take the top of the carb off SLOWLY and remembering where everything goes, because there are a lot of things, linkages etc etc then checking the needle and seat.
Some have a mesh type filter just before it and can get clogged if crap gets through the fuel filter. Or the needle and seat might just be worn or old and doesnt want to work.

Other than that, if the pump is still pumping fine and the filter isnt clogged, then its either a block in the fuel tank breather creating a low pressure in there or a block in the fuel tank pickup. Possibly even a perished fuel line...

Id be checking the needle and seat first, for sure

So a weber may fix my problem....

The carb on the car has a automatic choke and it is a reman.

Will take it apart and see what I find. I am thinking some gunk is built up somewhere.

well if its the needle and seat in the standard carb, and the new "weber" has a functioning needle and everything else is working then yes, should fix it.
To be honest you're better off just checking the standard carb

You aren't using a carb with an anti deiseling soleniod are you? That will stop fuel getting into you carb if it's not getting any power.

Good question, I dont think mine has the anti deisling solenoid.

Take the fuel line off the carby and put it in a plastic container. Now crank the engine. Is any fuel coming out? If there is youve eliminated everything previous to the carby.

In the carb could be a sticy float valve. The carby probably has 30yrs of crud in it anyway so geta workshop manual and strip the carb, clean everything with carby cleaner and reassemble. Could be a blocked jet or something. As said above could be the carb filter too. Or the anti dieseling solinoid as they are pretty common to fail! I think only the really early 1000/1200 carbs didnt have the solinoid.
