anyone shed any light on what may or may not be going on here, here is the situation, im driving along in my little ute, all is well until i come to a hill. in 4th or 5th it will start to stutter and carry on, whack him back to third, she starts going again as per normal. it will do it a little bit on a flat road when you stomp it in 4th or 5th, but is alot worse when a incline is involved. any ideas?

maybe run a air fuel ratio gauge, it may be lean or rich due to the carbs being incorrectly jetted

Check your timing and points (if you're running them). I have had the same sort of thing happen on the open road, thought it was fuel, changed down to bring up revs and she was fine - turned out to be points closing up on the journey.

Hey Steve It certainly sounds like ignition breaking down under load. The coil ort condenser being the most likly culperet. Change your coil and condenser and give her a go up Queens Road or Diamond Street. Let me know how she gets on then.
