anyone know what gear ratio the 4 speed has? my uncle has three two parts and one fixer I was thinking about getting it from him since he's not doing anything with it. I would put a bigger engine in it but I need to know what type of engine. was the 1600 a high revver? or was it low and torqy?
I'm thinking v6 3800 out of a buick.
is this the right forum to be asking?
if not anyone know where I could find some info on this car??

thanks
marcus

I assume you are talking about the fairlady or 'roadster' . I wouldnt have a clue about the ratio of the boxes in those things.
indeed the 1600 is a higher revver than the bigger motors eg : the 2 litre (and rare as hens teeth) U20. but what engine you put in it depends on if you are going to do a classic restoration or more of a streetcar thing.
the buick v6 you speak of is actually the engine we have in our Holden Commodores here in Australia. I would suggest you at least keep it in the family and go for the Nissan VG-30 ;) or better yet the FJ 20 / turbo , which would be neater and is the most commonly done.

here is a good site with a really neat example of a roadster , and some links to get you started off :

well I was thinking about modernizing it like a nice stereo newer style seats. I hate to say rice it out but I guess thats about it.
except it will actualy have power and not have just stickers. I was thinking the 3.8L because my uncle has one that he would give me. so all would be free. I'll look into nissan v6's.

The Datsun Roadsters are nice cars ... there are several Web sites that will tell you all about them, for example: www.datsun.org

If youre gonna rice out a roadstar make sure you dont ruin the dash with a stupid out of place looking modern radio. hide it in the glovebox and keep the oldschool look. Seen too many ruined dashes and butchered modernised classics that look like dolly pardon with overgrown titts and overstreched plastic features.
