#1 what lsd diff should i use?
DJF280 Posted on: 2008/11/4 12:18
Hello everyone, I am trying to decide what lsd diff i should use. My coupe currently has a galant diff, Engine is going to be a carby turbo a14 and 60 series 5 speed. What will be the cheapest and best suited diff for my combo.
skyline r31
hilux
620 ute
early ford
Any help and opinions appreciated. Thanks

When I do the diff in mine I will opt for the hilux as the LSD units are heaps better and you can get more stuff and ratios for them. I will go for the true trac centre in mine.

you would want something pretty light, would'nt want the diff to heavy. What about something like an AE86 LSD?

i'M PRETTY SURE THE LATE 80S BOXIER SHAPE 4WD CARIBS HAVE THE SAME DIFF AS AN AE86, WITH DIFFERENT MOUNTING, SO COULD BE A EASIER OPTION TO GET HOLD OF

I think with that engine and a tough diff your gearbox is going to be your weakest link, you wont be able to make the most of the diff, if hard launches and quick shifts are what you had planned.

I'm going through the same dilema that you are, i have my A14turbo in my 1000 and after several snaped axels and diffs i want to re-do the rear end so that it copes with the extra power while keeping it light weight. The power output of an A14turbo wouldn't warrent using a big heavy diff, R31 and the like would be heavy and have a prefound effect on handling, espeically when used in a race car application.

I was looking a cut down H190 but i'm not sure if they are available in LSD? i might just settle on a H165 from a bluebirdand just lock/weld the diff centre up. There was a thread and also a pic posted the other day, there is a Alfa diff that similar to the H190 but it has a alloy bearing carrier and alloy bits but i think that they're pretty rare in austrailia, i haven't looked in to it to much.

yes i know that!

i didn't put my name down on the list on topgears list, besides he hasn't finished them yet has he?

the nismo LSD diff centre is relitivly expensive, i was hoping to pick up a diff thats already LSD and cut and shunt to suit the 1K.

im using a stanza diff in my 1200 with a L20 it was 40mm to wide so they got pintara chasers with different offset which changed it to only 20mm wider then engineered if this helps.not sure if there is an lsd centre for it though now that i have put an sr20 in im going for r31 lsd
