I have seen GX bonnets sell for up to $1000 for a crappy steel one that is over 30 years old.

They look great.

How many layers of fibre sheets are used in their construction?

the bonnets looks great! however, i would still consider a steel genuine GX bonnet too be worth more and more sought after. But carbon and fibreglass make a good second option, if your not lucky enough to get your hands on the authentic piece.

Could we see a picture of one in the sun? i think the carbon will look the ducks nuts in the suns glare.

The quality is without question & despite the flack handed out to me alone for my view, I still think they look wonderful.
I suppose that they take paint OK.

Despite the quality & the number of people that would dearly love to have one, I suspect that in 25 years time they will have well & truly joined the ranks of the AY cylinder head & other such exotic pieces in that the total number that ever get fitted to a car will be very small.

It's a sad fact of life that the vast majority of forum members have big desires but small wallets. Perhaps that's why we love our small Datsuns so much. They are a minor classic that even today remains affordable.

Exotic pieces like this are not for the impecunious.

why would you paint a carbon fibre bonnet ? a fibreglass one yes, but a carbon fibre one ? part of the lure for most is the carbon fibre finish.

as for RWC'ness ... i doubt it, plus in the event of a headon accident the strength of the bonnet and rigidity is more than likely to sheer the bolts or tear the arms clean out of the thing and send it thru the windscreen like a guillotine !!!

but i still reckon it looks horn !!!

Painting...
because the Resins go brown from the UV's. and Aramid (aka Kevlar) breaks down in the sun too,
although I didn't see any in the cloth?

as for the quality of workmanship, it looks awesome,
a credit to you..

The resin that we use is a quality UV stabilized resin, so it wont brown off, but it can be painted also.
