These are not crappy Chinese quality products,

Hmmm maybe;

"These are not crappy quality Chinese products." Sounds a little more...neutral.

Fair price. It's specialist workmanship.

When it comes to quality gear, especially manufactured here with aussie labour and ingenuity..
If you have to ask, you can't afford it.

Now, when are the Sunny bonnets available?

Any idea on whether you'll be making fibreglass ones and what the price would be.
Also any info on whether these are built with a break line or anything to make them crumple in crashes vs guilotining your head off? :)
Cheers
Nick

to put it in perspective, most people who own a bmw don't even flinch when every 6 months they spend $3,000 on a grease/oil change. How can you complain about 1600 bucks for top quality kevlar?

having owned several classic BMWs, I have to admit that with the prices people want for Datsun parts these days I am starting to think that I'll ditch my 1200 coupe project and get back into them! I can get hold of genuine BMW motorsport parts for cheaper than any of the rarer Datsun stuff. As for $3000 for a service... well if you have a new one maybe - once BMWs are 20 years old they actually discount their parts and keep producing them to keep the old ones on the road. For example, I can buy factory oil filters from the dealer for less than a RYCO for my 1200. I can buy most parts to suit even the late 60's stuff straight from the dealer at a reasonable price as they still manufacture the spares.

In any case... not to derail the post!!! I think the carbon bonnets look sensational and if you have that kind of money to throw at your project, then I'd certainly grab one while you can.

How about a carbon fibre roof panel for the coupe... like the new BMW M3 it would lower your centre of gravity and considerably lighten the car!!! With the carbon fibre bonnet and boot lid + some of the cheap taiwanese thin front guards I wonder whether you could get a 1200 down to 500kg??

that should be quite possible if your original bonnet,bootlid and guards weighed 200kg to start with.
