Hey guys,
I am from the UK, and I am moving to Canada in a couple of weeks... Here all car audio grounds to Negative but in canada and the US everything grounds to positive... Is it still possible to bring all my car audio equipment to canada and use it... I will be bringing my stereo and cd multi changer.. i will be buying an amp and subs there... Why everything has to be different i dont know, everything grounds differently and we drive on opposite sides of the road, its sucks eh? Thanks dudes SLAM

Somebody's pulling your leg dude. Everything still gets grounded to negative. There are very few ancient cars that ran this system but you'd be hard pressed to find one.

The Chevy might ground to positive. This model may be one of 10 cars using this method...globally.
Spend $20 on a multimeter (must-have for repair toolkit) A positive grounded car just means that you still need to test for + and - before connecting up anyway.. The only way you'll fry anything is by not testing for accessories 12V. Doesn't matter if the ground or the positive feed is cut to turn off the device, so long as the wires connect to the correct place. Instead of switching positive, the system switches earth. Besides only this Chevy, and some 1930s cars might share this system...But nothing japanese in the last 40 years has used a positive ground. Your auto electronics will work, if you don't know how to wire it up, take it to an auto electrician, and let him/her do it for you. Chris

None of the cars I've owned in the states have been positive ground but I never had an S10. I do have a '67 Chevy El Camino and it's neg. ground. I have a heard time comprehending why chevy would make one model positive ground when the rest of there line is negative.

Positive ground stopped being used in the 50s or maybe early 60s ... along with 6V batteries.
All cars since have been negative ground. Even when I was a mechanic during the 80s, it was rare to see an old car with that. You can view topic.
