Depends on the CAM.

I usually set all my rally engines at 32degrees at about 6000rpm. Tends to work out to about 19degrees at idle.

DO NOT DO THIS - if it is a standard A14 or there will be bits of piston all over the place

Others will be about to help out soon I am sure. I would think that 7 degrees would be a little conservative, but I think it is what the manual says.

I am only answering because no one else has, others with far more knowledge can chime in any time.

Stock A-series is 5-10 degrees BTDC. For all of them: A12, A14, A15.

1980 Nissan factory service manual (usa) for engines A12, A14, A15 says 8 deg +/- 2 deg, and for Canada 10 deg +/- 2 deg. Hope this helps
