i thought about putting an R31 LSD in my 1000 but in my opinion even with the A14 turbo i think it will be way to heavy even when it's shortened to suit the rearend of the 1000, i'll probably settle for a H165 bluey diff thats shortened and i'll just lock the centre until topgear finishes the lsd centres.

R31 is a good option for a horsepower monster like a CA18 or SR20 but for an A series i reakon just stick with something a bit lighter like a H165 ute diff, you'd be surprised how much power and torque they can handle!

The AE86 lsd does fit into the H165 but i think the casing has to be machined down to fit from memory, they're not a chep item either!

theres also the hilux diff option, easier to get LSDs for but would be about as heavy as r31 BW and cost more to make due to needing different axles

there is also the diff from alfa 105 series they are very light weight but they're rare as rocking horse sh!t, they've got an alloy casing and very strong, one of the south african boys uses one in his dato and he recommends it, but as i said they are far and few between in oz.

Im thinking the R31 casing can be cast in alloy if there is enough interest. Im sure there is as so many use this diff and they are heavier than Pavarottis turds after Xmas lunch.

Which H190's have which axle splines? i suppose the problem with that is getting axles the right length to suit the housing you have

i have a vanette h190 diff and have pulled an alloy carrier out of a 720 ute, no idea if they use the same splines?

vanette h190 should have h165-sized axles i believe, 720 h190 is same as s3 bluey, gazelle.

Beware that the H190 diff centre was made for a lot of years and went through a lot of design changes , like axle size , pinion bearing size , crown wheel bolt size , alloy and iron centres , Diff carrier crownwheel offset , THIS Makes it very hard to Interchange Parts In most cases ,but you can still be lucky on a few parts , The H190 LSD`s that you can buy new out of the USA from Power Brute are for the late model H190`s with the Larger Dia crown wheel bolts , You have to be very careful what crown wheel carrier offset you are buying with this LSD so it matches up with the diff ratio you have . I was close to buying Power brute H190 LSD , BUT didn`t buy a lsd because the offset was not going to be correct for the H190 spec i Have , If anyone has Purchased one of these LSD`s it would be good to know what model spec H190 you are using it in . Iam using TOPGEAR H190 LSD which iam more that Happy with .

Just a query as to what the weight difference is between the R31 and Bluey diffs??
Cameron: What sort of power can this topgear diff handle? 200kw?
I'm still unsure about what I should be looking for, leaning towards a hilux but still trying to keep wight down..
