Most people tend to use a T25 off a CA18det, its a little laggy when useing a T25 but when it comes on boost its like a friggin hurricane!
I first used a T2 from a ET pulsar and it was pretty well suited but it ran out of puff in the higher RPM range.
I have heard of people using a turbo off a toyota starlet, CT12 or something similar. They have a different flanges to the nissan/garrett turbos, they are also well suited to an A series engine.
Possibilities are limitless, all depends on your budget and degree of knowledge, and also what you intend to use the vehicle for.
As for using twin 40 DCOE's in a turbo set-up there is a member on here that developed a twin webbered turbo set up, his name is Kegs. It is possible with some good results. Shoot him off a PM.

That should be pretty much spot on for an A-series, i would go for the T25 plenty of them around and heaps cheaper, boost comes on around about 3500-4000rpm. heaps of fun!

why does everyone hate lag so much? Its not that bad. My high-flow FJ20 T3 on a 1.6 was pretty laggy, but its not that hard to change down a gear and avoid the lag. Also means you can drive off boost for fuel economy.

I'm running a GT1746(1749), like from a Merc 1.8Vito van. A beautiful little unit. only mods required was to swop the vacuum actuaror on the waste-gate to a normal one that can sense boost... Good for 15psi from 2500RPM all the way through 7krpm into an A15.

well, I was told by someone, in the know, that Langley turbo pistons are a straight swap.... it's not, they are too tall, 3mm in total, so I was stuck with them and had to make a plan, had 1mm chopped off the std A15 rods, and 2mm from the tops of the pistons, they where nicely dished to start with, so things actually worked out rather well in the end... I'm pushing the 290,000 Km mark here, and not a single glitch from her... lately though, I'm noticing a slight bit of smoke, when I lift throttles, figuring it to be the turbo's Turbine oil-seal that might be a tad bit on the going-out phase of it's life... these pistons are however more than capable of holding 15PSI all day long... as long as you keep detonation under control. For that I'm using a home made boost-regulating detonation detector.
