im a 16 year old kid and love my dato 1200 utes but one thing is i want a bigger engine than the stock 1.2L. i was thinking an CA18det but when i get my P's i will not be able to drive it as it is a turbo. so than i thought i would settle with a just CA18de no turbo. just asking of anybody's thoughts and oppinois on what to do. is it a waste of money and time putting a CA18de and should i wait til i am off of my P's and put the turbo version in. as i said all i am askin is thoughts and opinions no harsh critism saying i am and idiot.

cheers

You are very smart by asking for advice. I'd say leave the A12 in there until you get past the P phase. It you are really dying, fit an A14, it will be less expensive and not too overpowered like a 1.8 liter.

Only an Idiot would call you an Idiot buddy. You could always go with a nice little A15/A14 in it they go well with a little tweaking and say a weber or twin webers. Then when you get bored of that and have built up some driving experience go with something more powerful.

Hi
Welcome to this website.
Why do you want/need a bigger engine in a ute?
Hopefully you haven't been driving on the road yet so you shouldn't be able to work out how much power you need. A well tuned stocker would get you through the learning bit and could still get you in heaps of trouble only a little bit slower than a CA18
cheers
Bob

if you go the ca18de start off with a det and remove the turbo so then when your off your p plates its just a bolt on mod :)

i think a a15 would be sweet tho :)

id say put up with what you got till you can put in a ca18det, dont waste money by putting in another engine that you wont end up being happy with. id recomend putting money away for a good ca18det conversion. then once you get your open licence and have at least half an idea of how to drive, do the conversion. do it once, do it right and do it legally and you'll have no dramas.

you'll then look back on the old 1200 and think how good it was when it was stock. then you'll probably buy another one
