number plates are funny things, they only cost a few hundred to buy, but yet people want thousands for them when its time to sell.
wierd.
i guess its a matter of how bad someone wants em.

What I find odd is, How can you sell something that you actually dont own? I NSW, the RTA own the plates and grant the registered owner of the vehicle the right to display them. How does the transaction actually take place. Does the rta take their cut?

Is someone able to explain the process in detail?

in wa we have the right to display if we want to sell there a special form ( like transfer papers for cars ) and yes there's stap dutie to pay on the plate when sold ,

cant see this selling for any more than 500
