Im thinking about getting a dato from near melbourne and transporting it to sydney. Does anybody know or recommend a company?
Would anybody know a ball park figure on how much it could cost?

i had my 1200 ute and 1200 coupe sent to newcastle from ipswich Qld, cost me about $800 for both and that was through TNT, i arrived on the day i got back, so they are pretty reliable. My advice is just ring around, tell them you circumsatnces and they tell you the price, And a word of warning, the cheapest isn't always the best, go with some one who offers a tracking number, usually a well known company would be best!

If its complete and drivable/up for the trip just get a permit from VicRoads and drive it back. By the time you shop around for a good price and professional service you will have it sittin in ya driveway ready to play with. Your looking around the $1000 mark if its a goer. Non goers not many touch and those that do stuff around in my recent experience. Try OzMotortransport they were good in the end it was so well strapped down it would have survived a trip around Oz and nothing damaged or missing.

all transport companies are crooks, if cheap they damage your car somehow (eg rev the crap of the thing when they get it to their depot - seen it done) if expensive they still dont give a ####. Be careful.
cant you get a couple of permits and drive it home?

Yeah the permits allow you to move it even if it unregistered.

Gav, I have just paid for the shipment of my B10 - the red one, from Revheads in Bayswater (Melbourne) to my house in Wynn Vale (Adelaide).

All up was $443 and it sould be here by next week. I just got a late quote in yesterday for $430 so I reckon that'd give you a reasonable idea of price.

The company I wrote to was Auto-Logistics.

They responded within the next day with a price. I can let you know how it all went with them when the car gets here, if they dick me around and/or damage the vehicle it'd be a good indication of their service. If they do good you may want to consider.

I think $1000 to Sydney is way too much. Maybe $650 - 850?
