Just want to know what sort of clutch plate fellow members recomend for the toyota 5-speed to A-series? i read some where that you need to use a toyota clutch plate and A-series pressure plate. Is there any clutch plate that can be used without modification? or do i have to get a clutch plate from Dellow?

I`m not sure what clutch plate comes supplied with the dellow conversion. I purchased one of these kits about 18 months ago and the plate that came just looked like any generic plate. I`m not sure whether toyota and nissan shared the same plate sizes though?
I`m interested where this thread will lead as the standard plate that came with my box has never been able to cope with full boost on my A15T.
I`m running a twin diaphram pressure plate from my old set-up and the std dellow toyo/nissan plate that came with box, I`m thinking I might modify my old plate (solid saw blade with full face asbestos friction material).
I know this probably does`nt help much but I`ll let you know if it works when I get around to pulling the motor (again?!).

steveo, go to your local clutch outlet and get a clutch plate that is the same diameter as a a series one, but with the toyota spline.
its 190mm from memory.
you dont HAVE to get one from dellow, they are a pretty common thing and your supplier will have one on the shelf.
ive had one behind my a series for a while now and it still dont slip. from there you should be able to get some heavy duty stuff easy enough if needs be.

AHA!!!! That what i wanted to know! i'm running this toyota 5-speed in question behind my A14 turbo and i wanted to know if the toyota plate that is supplied by dellow will be able to handle boost?

What alternatives are out there? what has other people used?

If your running serious boost (20 psi+) the standard (dellow) clutch plate will fail prettymuch str8 away i`v had to shorten my clutch fork to get more purchases on the p-plate but it still slips at 15 psi+ ( 80kph in third).
What sort of set-up are you running ( EFI, DRAW THRU,?????)

Blow through set up, running through a 350 Holley, it's running 15psi at the moment. Pic is in my album.

Rang up the local brake and clutch place today and i found that there is so many options available! i ordered a extra heavy duty unit from a celica(early model i assume) should be able to handle boost! i hope!

with the conversion you still use an a-series flywheel and a-series pressure plate... and the clutch plate is the a-series heavy duty one with the centre splined changed to the celica spline

so essential it's still all a-series bits... if you ordered a celica pressure plate it's not going to suit an a-series flywheel

i have a ceramic button clutch to suit a-series, i think it cost the original owner 270 (maybe it was 370)

i'm not a fan of the button clutch though as you lose control in regards to slipping the clutch in and out, particularily handy in a rally car, but it was a pian on the street too i had it for a year or more and still stalled the car every now and then trying to pull away from the lights casually

Oh sh!t! i failed to mention the they are going to mount the 1200 centre into the celica plate,you know what i meant!

The stock A series diameter plate is just too small for a strong boosted motor. IMHO, I wouldn't bother with anything of the 180mm variety. Take your flywheel to an engineer, and get them to re machine your flywheel to accept a 200mm P/plate. Then get a toyota center fitted to a 200mm friction plate. I used a (Heavy duty) 200mm L series P/plate on my A series. They only just fit on the flywheel though.
In the very beginning, I ran a (MINT) 180mm plate behind my A14 S/C. And it couldn't keep up. The extra money you'd spend trying to make a 180mm clutch heavy duty enough would be waaaaay better spent on getting the greater surface area that goes with the 200mm plate. It has around 36% more surface area.
