Howdy,
Mt Alma Hillclimb (near Victor Harbour)was run over the weekend
18-19 april
There is some incar footage from my 1200 coupe on youtube
if you want to see what this event was all about.
The track is very steep, it took me 52.00 seconds to complete and the speed over the finish line was 157 kph.

Cheers,
Geoff

wow that is a pretty fast looking hill climb.
How many people lose it when going on to the dirt after the finish line, It appeared even you got a bit squirrelly when you came off the road onto the dirt. I imagine it must be pretty hairy for some of the faster cars

Looks like you have your 1200 sorted out REAL well! What motor are you running in there?

Howdy,
This is the first time this hillclimb has been run.
The position of the finish line did cause some of the faster cars real trouble and a couple of cars ran of the road after the finish line. hopefully the finish line will be moved to allow more time to slow before the dirt if this event is rum again.

My coupe runs slicks and they just don't work on dirt, and it was a cold, wet day, they only just worked on the tarmac.

My coupe is powered by a "stock" Nissan FJ20
Glad you enjoyed the video.

Cheers,
Geoff

Certainly did! Was some slick driving, you were fair motoring.
I can only imagine what it would be like going off on the dirt in slicks, its bad enough on road tyres!

Excellent driving and great video clip. Thanks for sharing it. Is that a stock FJ20 gearbox? The ratios are awesome!

Howdy,
The gearbox is the one that came with the motor. standard 5 speed.

The secret is to run a 4.875:1 diff ratio and forget about using first gear.

I always start in second, so it is really only a 4 speed box to me.

I tried a 4.11:1 diff ratio and starting in first but found it did not match the motors power to the gearbox ratios very well.
it struggled to pull 5th gear and would actually go faster in 4th.

with the 4.875:1 diff it will pull 7000 rpm in 5th at about
180 kph. I have not found a hillclimb where I would want, or need to go faster.

Cheers,
Geoff

Looks like it got a bit taily when you went past the finish line on the gravel!
